Vettai Mannan (English: Hunting King; Tamil: வேட்டை மன்னன்) is an upcoming Tamilaction-thriller film written and directed by debutante director Nelson.^[1] The film will feature Silambarasan, Jai, Hansika Motwani,^[2]Deeksha Seth and Poonam Kaur in lead roles.^[3] It is produced by S. S. Chakravarthy and features background score and soundtrack composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The film is under production and is slated to release in 2013.^[4]

Production

Development

In November 2010, Silambarasan announced that he had signed a new film titled Vettai Mannan to be directed by Nelson,^[5] a longtime associate of Silambarasan, who had been working with him in since Manmadhan (2004).^[6] During the filming of Podaa Podi in London, Nelson had provided a full script of his film to Silambarasan, who instantly liked it. Producer S. S. Chakravarthy was approached by Silambarasan, who too was impressed by the project and agreed to produce the film under his Nic Arts banner.^[5] Incidentally, Silambarasan had previously opted out of Linguswamy's project, which was similarly titled as Vettai.^[7] Silambarasan, however, clarified that the team wanted to name the film as Vettaiyan initially, but had to rename it, since the title had been registered by director P. Vasu.^[8]Vettai Mannan is touted become Silambarasan costliest film, with the budget estimated at around 50-60 crores.^[9] Simbhu said that Vettai Mannan is a gangster flick made in lighter vein.^[10]

Casting

^[11]Jai had also been finalized to play a supporting role, before the film was officially launched.^[12] A Hollywood stunt team is working on the project.^[13]Deeksha Seth was eventually roped in to play Silambarasan's love interest, portraying a "simple and bubbly girl".^[14][15] Reports suggested that the crew had contacted Amrita Rao and Piaa Bajpai regarding the two remaining roles;^[16] Silambarasan, however, confirmed, that neither of both would be part of the project.^[17]Poonam Kaur also joined the cast. Hansika Motwani was selected to play Maya, a female gangster and Silambarasan's gun moll.^{[3][8][18][19][20]}Yuvan Shankar Raja was signed as the composer, while Silambarasan informed that a team from Hollywood would choreograph the action sequences.^[11]

Filming

Vettai Mannan was planned to be shot in the United States, Mexico and Chennai.^[11] Filming commenced on April 6, 2011 in Chennai.^[21] During the first schedule, the climax of the film was shot at Binny Mills.^[22] According to Silambarasan, the fight was filmed with seven cameras, with 60 fighters participating.^[9][23] In August 2011, two schedules were completed in a mere 20 days, where some action scenes and the lead pair - STR and Deeksha Seth's scenes were shot.^[24]
Besides Vettai Mannan, Simbhu once again pairing with Hansika and collaborating S. S. Chakravarthy with a project called Vaalu.^[25]

Marketing

A small teaser trailer of the film was unveiled in July 2011.^[26] Satellite rights of the film has been bagged by Sun TV.^[27]
